Artful Designs Hair Care will keep you looking your best. Owner Barbara Strubell offers cuts, color, perms, styling, natural nail manicures and many other services. She enjoys giving her clients quality service and a beautiful,

custom look. Barbara is also deeply committed to helping you keep your hair healthy. She researches her products carefully to be sure they are sustainable, cruelty-free and do not contain harmful ingredients. Artful Designs welcomes clients “from age 2 to 102.”

Barbara takes pride in giving personalized attention

to her clients and she dedicates herself to complete customer satisfaction. The salon is a bright, airy, inviting space where clients feel cared for. Large windows let in lots of natural light and open up to a soothing view. “I want my customers to feel good while they are here. I want them to know they are listened to,” Barbara says. She also adds personal touches — fresh flowers, tea and coffee, cookies and candies — to make her customers comfortable.

Barbara is an experienced professional. She stays current with the latest styles, tools and techniques. She began her career as a hairdresser in 1972 and opened the salon in Southwest Harbor in 1984. In 2006, Candy Potter joined the Artful Designs staff as receptionist and Sue Damon as stylist. This year, the salon is completing renovations and Barbara is looking forward to taking Artful Designs to the next level. “We’re growing,” says Barbara. “I want to build a team of stylists and add a nail technician to expand our services.”

In her free time, Barbara volunteers for Alström Syndrome International. She also enjoys oil painting and you’ll see her artwork displayed at the salon. “Art gives me another way to be creative and expressive,” she says.

The pleasant atmosphere of the salon compliments the casual way of life in Maine. Natural looking color and perms, with easy to style (no care) hair, suits today’s busy people. We also do those special do’s for more formal occasions.Special occasions are handled with expertise.

We are trying to be as green a salon as possible. We reduce, reuse and recycle. Here is a list of what we are currently doing;

We recycle newspaper, magazines plastic, metal, and glass, cardboard at the transfer station.

We buy recycled paper products for the bathroom and printing and print both sides.Waxed paper hot cups are used instead of Styrofoam (more sanitary than ceramic).
